Manufacturing Facility Soil RemediationNational Lead, ILOutcomeThe MT2 approach met the lead RCRA requirement and provided substantial cost savings of over $100/ton by allowing the soil to be treated in-place and to be transported and disposed as non-hazardous. |
OverviewThe Chicago 900 West 18th Street property, a former manufacturing facility, included lead contaminated soil with TCLP levels as high as 167 mg/l. Contaminated soil was 3 feet to 6 feet below the surface elevations, located under concrete. MT2 was contracted to stabilize the lead contaminated soil to RCRA non-hazardous levels for landfill disposal. MT2 ServicesMT2 conducted a treatability study using site samples and developed an effective treatment method and ECOBOND® formula. MT2 removed the concrete prior to soil remediation and excavation, and transported the concrete for recycle. Overburden clean soil was excavated and stockpiled for replacement as backfill. MT2 performed onsite, in-situ stabilization of the contaminated soil. MT2 applied ECOBOND® and performed mixing within the excavated pit; MT2 obtained a composite sample of the soils contained within the excavated pit, and submitted these samples to an independent laboratory for analysis to verify that the TCLP of the lead had been reduced to less than 5.0 mg/l. MT2 then excavated and loaded soil for transportation and disposal as non-hazardous waste. |
Salvage Yard Environmental RemediationOceana Salvage, VAOutcomeMT2’s proprietary remediation approach allowed for the beneficial re-use of soil onsite; providing significant cost savings of over $100/ton for this client. |
OverviewMT2 was contracted to provide environmental remediation services for soil piles located at the Oceana Salvage facility, which was a US EPA listed Superfund Site. MT2 utilized ECOBOND® lead treatment technology to stabilize lead impacted soils in three soil piles to meet RCRA TCLP nonhazardous levels of 5.0 mg/L. MT2 ServicesMT2 conducted a treatability study using site samples and developed an effective ECOBOND® soil remediation formula. Following treatment, MT2 performed confirmation sampling to verify treatment effectiveness. Treated soils were placed as directed by the client, graded, covered with permeable geotextile fabric, and capped with six inches of clean soil. |
Smelter Site EPA Emergency Removal ActionJacobs Smelter, UTOutcomeAll treated waste was accepted by the EPA and disposed of in a nearby commercial landfill saving the EPA $697,350. |
OverviewThe Jacobs Smelter EPA Emergency Removal Action site consisted of 13,950 tons of lead, arsenic and cadmium contaminated milling and smelter waste from historic lead and zinc mining operations located in and around the town of Stockton, Utah. Under EPA project administration; MT2 was contracted by Environmental Chemical Corporation to provide treatment of contaminated soil. MT2 ServicesContaminated soil treatment involved chemically stabilizing the waste with ECOBOND® to UTS standards which are the most stringent stabilization standards required by the EPA. Under UTS standards leachable lead, cadmium and arsenic were stabilized to less than 0.75 ppm, 0.11 ppm and 5 ppm, respectively. |
Turnkey Site RemediationInner-City Project, PAOutcomeMT2 successfully completed this challenging inner-city project and maintained environmental protection throughout the duration of the contract. MT2 established and maintained an effective QC program that consisted of plans, procedures, and organization necessary to produce an end product. |
OverviewMT2 was contracted to perform soil remediation activities at the former DuPont Marshall Laboratory Facility. The site was covered with approximately five inches of asphalt and two median strips with grass and light poles plus curbing surrounding the grass islands. Subsurface soils contained concentrations of lead above Pennsylvania Residential and Non-Residential Soil Remediation Levels. MT2 ServicesMT2 turnkey remediation tasks included the removal and recycling of the overlaying asphalt; in-situ ECOBOND® treatment of lead contaminated soils; and site restoration including re-grading, compaction, and re-paving. |
Facility DecontaminationGreen Mountain Power Plant, COOutcomeMT2 successfully completed this project and met all project environmental and safety requirements. |
OverviewThe Bureau of Reclamation contracted MT2 to provide lead/metals dust cleanup for the Green Mountain Power Plant. MT2 ServicesTasks included relocation of machinery, stripping sealant from the machine shop floor and replacing with a new industrial level sealant designed to withstand the rigors of manufacturing floor traffic, including forklift traffic; lead and metals dust control/remediation; and the containerization, transportation and disposal of waste. Lead and metals dust remediation included dust removal using HEPA vacuums in all required areas; surface cleaning of exposed surfaces in all required areas; additional wall space, ceilings and other adjacent surfaces; and waste disposal. |
