LAKEPORT >> The Konocti Rod and Gun Club and the Lake County 4-H will hold their 10th annual Free Family Fun Shoot on Aug. 2 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the shooting range across from Highland Springs parks.
The event aims to provide parents and children an opportunity to learn about safety, shooting and firearms in a safe and controlled environment.
All ammunition and firearms will be provided free-of-charge and one-on-one coaching at each shooting position will help maintain a safe and friendly learning environment. The event will be overseen by a certified range safety officer at all times and there are multiple instructors coaching the individual stations. Dozens of targets will be placed on the range from 25 feet to 200 yards and will include rubber and steel reactive targets, hanging plate steel and containers filled with flour.
On the line, 10 different shooting stations will be available to visit with a variety of firearms, including .22-caliber single-shot rifles, .22 semi-auto rifles, center fire bolt action rifles, center fire semi-auto rifles, black powder rifles and 12- and 20-gauge shotguns. A pneumatic tennis ball shooter that shoots 100 yards will also be featured. One station has a target retrieval system to bring a target back in so people can take their targets home.
Safety literature on safe firearms handling and safe firearms storage in the home will be available and gun locks will be provided for participants free-of-charge.
Lunch will be available at the event. A hotdog meal will cost $5 for a hotdog, chips and water. For information, visit www.krgc.org or call 995-1965.
The shooting range is located at 3800 Highland Springs Road in Lakeport, across from Highland Springs Park.
