MT2 Firing Range Lead Reclamation and Re-Construction
Markham Park Target Range, FL
Overview: MT2 was contracted to provide firing range environmental lead remediation at the Markham Park Target Range located Broward County, Florida. MT2 provided integrated engineering, lead remediation, and construction management services to successfully complete lead remediation of a former firing range site containing multiple remediation areas in Broward County.
MT2 Services: This project included subcontracting procurement, management, and oversight by MT2, engineering investigation and design, lead remediation, including MT2’s real-time field analysis of lead and ECOBOND® treatment of waste to allow non-hazardous waste disposal, and construction management. MT2 provided a collaborative project approach incorporating the Owner, regulatory agencies, project engineer, and multiple subcontractors to complete this project within schedule and within budget. The team met safe operational lead levels required by State and Federal laws and regulations. The range consisted of six trap and skeet houses approximately 600 feet in length and a lake approximately 50 to 75 feet in width. MT2 project tasks included: 1) Mobilization& Site Setup; 2) Site clearing (remove trees and vegetation); 3) Excavation of lead impacted soils; 4) Excavation and removal of sediments (including the clay targets) from the lake bottom; 5) Disposal of clay targets and other solid shooting wastes recovered from the lake; 6) Treatment of lead fines remaining in processed soils and lake sediments; 7) Re-installing processed and treated soils and sediments back onto the firing range to allow for continued range usage; and 8) Preparation of project reports (Work Plan, H&S, QA/QC, Final Report) and conduct project meetings as required.
Outcome: MT2 provided construction management including coordination of all project activities, multiple subcontractors, and client representatives. MT2 processed over 70,000 CY of soil and sediments and recovered over 1,100,000 lbs of lead for recycling.
Lead Recovery and Maintenance
Pemigewasset Valley Fish and Game Club Shooting Range, NH
Overview: MT2 was contracted to perform environmental lead recovery, monitoring, and maintenance activities at the Club’s 200 Meter Range and Action Pistol Ranges and Trap Field.
MT2 Services: MT2’s project objectives were to support the Club in improving shooter safety and in mitigating potential physical, occupational, and environmental hazards associated with high concentrations of lead in the range soils/berms at the two firing ranges; as well as achieving compliance with USEPA and NRA recommended firing range environmental Best Management Practices (BMPs). All lead management activities were performed to EPA Firing Range Best Management Practices guidelines and applicable state regulations. MT2 excavated, screened and processed approximately 500 cyds of berm materials and 1,000 cyds of lead-impacted soils within the Trap Field shot fall zone. Range maintenance included 1) Excavation of the lead-impacted soils to remove (via screening) bullets/bullet fragments/shot from soil; 2) Recycling of recovered bullets and bullet fragments; and 3) Re-installation of soils onto the shooting range to allow for continued use.
Lead Contaminated Soils Remediation
Sun Valley Gun Club, ID
Overview: MT2 provided turnkey ECONBOND® treatment of lead-impacted soils at the Sun Valley Gun Club, Sun Valley, Idaho in order to allow for re-use of the site as the new Sun Valley Golf Course.
MT2 Services: The overall project required excavation, treatment, and sampling and analysis to confirm treatment of soils identified during site investigations and operation of the remediation activity.
Outcome: All work was performed in accordance with the requirements of the April 6, 2007 Remedial Action Plan (“RAP”) and incorporated applicable conditions specified in the IDEQ approval. The range area contained approximately 14,000 tons of lead-impacted soil.
