Operating Range Maintenance and RepairUSAF Academy CATM Range, COOutcomeEven in severe winter weather conditions, MT2 completed the project within schedule; the completed range project met the Academy’s technical and training requirements; recovered lead was of high recycle value and provided the Academy with an off-set credit for project costs. USAFA completed a project review and graded MT2 with excellent marks. |
OverviewThe US Air Force Academy (USAFA) contracted MT2 Sole Source to perform operating firing range maintenance and repair of two firing ranges. The ranges had been temporarily closed due to potential ricochets from the main impact berm. USAFA selected MT2 based on research indicating that MT2 was highly qualified and experienced; cost-effective price, and MT2 was highly recommended by other organizations. MT2 ServicesDue to the need to make this range operational as soon as possible, the project was performed during the winter season. MT2 tasks included: MT2 utilized its proprietary and specialized systems including vibratory and finishing plants to provide over 95% lead reclamation from the main impact berm and range floor; MT2 performed range reconstruction enhancements including slope stabilization by installing geogrid membranes, seeding and installation of erosion control blankets to protect berm slope and configuration; Stormwater management; Air monitoring compliance at an active facility; and MT2 met Base requirements for security and traffic control. |
Operating Range UpgradeNAVFAC SOCAM Ranges, VA
|
OverviewMT2 performed firing range maintenance and range upgrades at three Naval Air Station Oceana operating ranges to meet Navy mission requirements for environmental and range upgrades. This range was utilized for training by US Marines and Navy personnel and was located near the Atlantic Ocean and a protected wetland. MT2 ServicesMT2 provided significant cost savings through surgical excavation (reducing soil quantities), utilization of MT2’s specialized soils screening equipment, and beneficial onsite reuse of soils treated with ECOBOND® lead stabilization reagent. MT2’s proprietary systems and field processes recovered greater than 95% of lead fragments from the main impact berm and range floor and produced recovered lead of high recycle value to provide the Navy with a credit to off-set project costs. To meet environmental requirements MT2 treated lead impacted soils with MT2’s exclusive ECOBOND® lead stabilization reagent to chemically bind lead and virtually eliminate leaching of lead into the environment. MT2 reconstructed the range to meet specific military design requirements including height and slope of the berm. Additional tasks included stormwater management, air monitoring compliance at an active facility, and meeting base requirements for security and traffic control. |
Turnkey Range Cleanup, UXO Clearance and Site ClosureLowry AFB, CO
OutcomeThe work completed by MT2 allowed IRG to receive a letter of No Further Action and allowed IRG to redevelop the land for residential use. Today this property is a vibrant part of the Denver community. |
OverviewMT2 was contracted by the International Risk Group (IRG) to complete turnkey firing range cleanup, UXO site clearance, and closure of the former Lowry AFB Outdoor Firing Range to allow re-use of land for residential development. The site was formerly utilized for machine gun training and was also designated as potentially containing unexploded ordinances. MT2 ServicesMT2’s turnkey approach included preparation of plans/procedures approved by CDPHE. MT2 deployed proprietary and specialty equipment to remove bullet fragments and support the identification and removal of unexploded ordinances. MT2 conducted an extensive soil sampling program to ensure that soil that remained onsite met residential use standards. Soils not identified for residential use were treated with ECOBOND® to allow economical offsite non-hazardous disposal. MT2 tasks included stormwater management and air compliance since work area was adjacent to a residential area. MT2 thoroughly documented all work activities and successfully worked with multiple stakeholders/ subcontractors including reporting directly to the state of Colorado. |
Former Range RemediationJBLM McChord Field, WAOutcomeMT2’s proprietary methods and ECOBOND® treatment reduced soil quantities and allowed the beneficial reuse of soils onsite, providing significant cost savings. Further, all environmental, regulatory and base requirements were met. |
OverviewMT2 performed turnkey environmental firing range remediation at the former McChord Field firing range to allow redevelopment and expansion of the airfield. MT2 coordinated with multiple stakeholders including Versar, McChord AFB, and the US Army Corps of Engineers for the execution of this project. MT2 ServicesMT2 worked with multiple stakeholders to develop and implement an effective plan to reuse soils onsite; providing significant cost saving versus offsite transportation and disposal. MT2 conducted a site assessment including onsite analysis utilizing an XRF and offsite laboratory analysis; followed by site surveying to delineate the work area and document quantities of soils to be removed. MT2 installed stormwater control measures prior to starting work and implemented air monitoring controls while conducting the work. MT2 deployed in-situ ECOBOND® treatment methods followed by surgical excavation to control quantities for removal and allow onsite reuse of soil. MT2 managed and completed the movement of soils following base security and traffic control requirements. |
Trap and Skeet Range Cleanup and ClosureOffutt AFB, NEOutcomeOffutt AFB is now able to reuse this land for redevelopment; the removal of contaminated sediments to the active waterway met environmental requirements and reduced environmental risks, ECOBOND® treatment and field efficiencies provided significant client savings. |
OverviewMT2 performed turnkey environmental firing range remediation at the former Offutt AFB Trap and Skeet Range to allow land redevelopment and expansion of the airfield. This project included management of an active waterway along with meeting strict security requirements for an active airfield. MT2 served EA Engineering, Offutt AFB, and the US Army Corps of Engineers for the execution of this project. MT2 ServicesThis project was performed in high security areas as well as within an environmentally sensitive active waterway. MT2 conducted: specialty excavations to reduce soil quantities for off-site disposal; sediment removal in an active waterway; stormwater and air compliance; and in-situ ECOBOND® treatment of soils thus allowing nonhazardous offsite transportation and disposal. MT2 met base security and traffic control requirements. MT2 provided efficiencies through onsite survey control and effective client communication. |
