CIH Certification
MT2 has been working with Dale Krupinski, Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), for several years and he was the obvious choice to bring onboard as our in-house CIH. Dale is a former OSHA Compliance Officer with an understanding of range operations.
Due to our commitment to quality and serving our clients, we decided to hire an Industry-Leading CIH as a Value-Added service to your Gun Range Lead Removal Projects. He plays a key role in providing necessary information, results, and advice readily available, and on-hand for our clients’ projects. We strive to stay on the cutting-edge side of shooting range lead maintenance and decontamination. Dale helps us complete our projects faster and more accurately. No one reclaims more lead or finishes a project faster than MT2.
Below is an interview with him so that you can learn more about how a Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) this will benefit your firing range.
WHAT IS A CERTIFIED INDUSTRIAL HYGIENIST (CIH)?
A Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) is an individual who has extensive education and industrial hygiene experience, and through examination, has demonstrated a superior level of knowledge and skills in occupational safety and health.
WHAT TYPE OF EXAMINATION DOES A CIH UNDERGO?
All CIHs must successfully complete a 5 hour written exam that only 40 percent of the examinees pass. In addition, CIHs must maintain their certification by either taking the written exam every five years or completing numerous continuing education courses.
WHY WOULD A GUN RANGE NEED A CIH?
A CIH helps collect essential exposure and ventilation data onsite so the range management team can make sound management decisions based on data.
WHAT TYPE OF EXPOSURE DATA WOULD A CIH COLLECT?
A CIH collects personal noise and airborne lead data during the busiest range times to establish a worst-case exposure scenario. In addition, a CIH assesses lead surface levels throughout the range and air velocities on the range to measure the effectiveness of housekeeping and ventilation.
MT2 Firing Range Services is known industry wide for being the nation’s #1 largest professional provider of the full scale of outdoor/indoor range environmental, maintenance and construction services; proven at over 2,500 ranges in all 50 states from our nationwide office network. Including:
- Comprehensive OSHA Training Program
- Knowledge of EPA Regulations
- Our “Never Generate Hazardous Waste Guarantee.”
WHY DO RANGES NEED TO COLLECT SUCH DATA?
Personal exposure monitoring is required by numerous OSHA standards. Ranges need this data to determine how much of the OSHA regulations will apply to their operations.
CAN’T ANYONE COLLECT THIS DATA?
Sure. Just like anyone could file a range’s tax return. However, most ranges want to hire a Certified Public Accountant (CPA). Hiring a CIH to collect your occupational exposure data is considered best management practice.
WILL THE COLLECTIONS OF THIS DATA INTERFERE WITH MY RANGE OPERATIONS?
Absolutely not. The equipment used to collect this data is worn by selected staff throughout the entire shift and will not interfere with their range duties.
